Activities of
Yeti :
- Special general meeting is scheduled on 2nd August at
Trade Union Hall, Acton to discuss amendments in the present constitution of the
Association.
- 39th AGM is to be held on 31 August at Priory
Community Centre, Acton to elect the 18th executive committee and discuss on annual report
and financial reports.
- 3rd Yeti running cup football tournament was held on
26 July at Brentside High School Playing Field, Greenford in the coordination of Sports
Secretary Mr Amrit Thapa.
- Joint summer outing is being organised with The
Britain Nepal Society to visit the old palace of Hartfordshire on 9th August.
- Mr Samip Hangwang Jarjar is being nominated as
Election Officer to conduct 18th Executive Committee.
- A 3 members Auditing Committee is being formed with Mr
Dhruba K C, Mr Bandhu Raj Poudel and Mr Krishna Bhattarai; Mr Dharma Rayamajhi is
alternate member.
- The hand-over ceremony is to be held on 6 September at
Priory Community Centre, Acton.
- VNY 98 evening is to be celebrated at Ealing Town Hall
on 20 August to enhance and for promotion of Nepalese tourism, art and culture. Nepalese
supper is also included in admission fee of 25 pounds.
The proceeds from the event will go towards
establishment of a Nepali Community House in London. The celebration will be participated
by dignitaries from Nepal, Royal Nepalese Embassy- UK, The Britain Nepal Society, The
Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce, King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation, The
Brigade of Gurkhas and Nepalese community in UK along with British friends. Honorary
Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Tourism, Nepal Mr Dhruba KC is being nominated as
Coordinator of the Organising Committee.
Activities of NLDC :
The Nepalese Literature Development Council celebrated
Bhanu Jayanti on 23rd July at Trade Union Hall, Acton. The Jayanti was
celebrated with reciting poems written by more than 20 Nepalese poets residing in UK.
Royal Nepalese Ambassador Dr. Singha B Basnyat, Yeti President Dr Raghav Dhital, Councilor
Mr Prahlad Prasai, Mr Gopal Poudel, editor of ST, entrepreneurs, students and others were
present on the occasion.
Ambassador Dr Basnyat, Yeti President Dr Dhital and
Councilor Mr Prasai paid tribute to the great poet. NLDC President Mr Iswor Manandhar
extended vote of thanks to the participants and invitees with hope that the more Nepalese
in UK will participate in the development of Nepalese literature in UK. The programme was
ably conducted by Council General Secretary Mr Suresh J Shah.
Activities of NDA :
The Nepalese Doctors Association (NDA) UK celebrated
their 13th AGM with a series of events in Greenwich University, between 24 - 26 July. The
event was attended by 60 Nepalese doctors along with their family. The NDA was established
in 1985 to constitute better understanding and co-operation amongst Nepalese doctors
working in UK. The membership incorporates about 100 Nepalese doctors who are in different
stages of their career.
The AGM took place under chairmanship of Dr Chuda Karki,
amongst vital issues debated were the financial help to Nepalese doctors coming to UK for
training - requesting help, NDAs role in charity work and other activities in the
future along with a regular AGM agendas. Dr Chuda Karki, Chairman of NDA welcomed the
August gathering of Annual Dinner and highlighted some of the NDA achievements. The Chief
guest, the Royal Nepalese Ambassador Dr Singha B Basnyat accompanied by his wife Princess
Jotshana Basnyat, expressed his gratitude for its contribution to various projects in
Nepal. He also gave a brief update on the political situation in Nepal and government
austerity measures policy and significance of VNY 98.
Dr Phauda Raj Thebe, the General Secretary, who was one
of the main organisers of the AGM, ably conducted the proceedings. Dr Neil Weir an eminent
ENT surgeon was the Chief Speaker for the evening after the Annual Dinner. He is one of
the Directors of the Britain-Nepal Otology Society. He gave an account of the some of the
achievements of the Society. Regular ear surgery camps have been held in different parts
of Nepal. To date 17000 patients have been examined and 2000 operations have been carried
out to prevent the development of life threatening complications and to restore hearing.
During the events Dr Kamal Rauniar gave an absorbing
talk on the origin of Nepalese culture and language. Mr Khagendra Nepali, also gave a
demonstration of equipment used to tune Nepali programme in UK. Mrs Anju Karki gave away
Chairmans award to Mrs Shaila Joshi and Vice Chairmans award to Miss Shruti
Dhungana for their activities.
Dr Gunja Man Sherchan was co-ordinator for all Cultural programmes. Dr
Prasanna Gautam gave a vote of thanks.
