For a mixed English/Scottish ceilidh - informal event £450; more formal event £500. A deposit of £60-£80 (part of the quoted fee) is required to confirm the booking. Agreement Form: Details of bookings get captured in our Agreement Form (see Agreement Form Template), signed copies of which we exchange when everyone is finally happy. Attached to the form are some guidelines on dance area, band area, and other venue aspects which you may find useful in your planning. We do not make a distinction between 'English ceilidh' and 'English barn dance' as our style of playing, and choice of tunes and dances have proved, over many years, to be popular at dances billed as either. We do a mix of fairly laid-back polkas and jigs, some lively reels and jigs, slower 'stompy' hornpipes and perhaps a waltz. The dances are all fairly straightforward and good fun to do. Each dance is explained at the outset by our caller, who will judge the mix of skills on the night, and tailor the initial instructions, and guidance once started, to suit - so no previous experience necessary. Needless to say, if there are plenty of experienced ceilidh dancers then we are happy to include some more challenging dances. The band's aim is to match the dances with good, lively, rhythmic tunes, enhanced with swing and syncopation, and varying sound textures. A snapshot of what we sound like: Second Front English Style.MP3. Mix of English and Scottish ceilidh Members of Second Front are also involved in Innistor Scottish Ceilidh Band which specialises in providing authentic music and dancing for Scottish ceilidhs, much like you would find in Scotland, and sounding like Innistor/Second Front Scottish Style. MP3. If an authentic Scottish ceilidh (described further below) is what you are after then please visit www.innistor.co.uk. If, however, you would be happy with, or would prefer, just a flavour of that through the evening (perhaps because of a Scottish connection), then Second Front offers an option where 50%-upwards of the evening would be English ceilidh, as described above, and the rest Scottish, as described below. More on 'authentic Scottish Ceilidh' The dances in an authentic Scottish ceilidh tend to come from a pool of favourites such as - Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant, Strip The Willow, Canadian Barn Dance, Military Two Step, Virginia Reel, Cumberland Reel, St Bernard's Waltz, etc. The tunes are mostly Scottish, drawing significantly from pipe tune sources, and played in the characteristic style of strident musette accordion and fiddle with lots of 'lilt and lift' and strict tempo backing - as in Innistor/Second Front Scottish Style.MP3. Musical variation is primarily achieved by the band playing several tunes per dance (compared to Second Front's English style of variations within a tune, and from a broad range of musical influences). Many people with Scottish connections are familiar with this genre and know that it is exactly what they are after, often for the more formal occasions of weddings, Burns Suppers, Dining In Nights (forces), etc. If this is specifically what you are looking for please see details of our sister band at www.innistor.co.uk. Otherwise you may wish to consider Second Front's mix of English and Scottish ceilidh. Innistor Scottish Ceilidh Dance Band Hog's Back Band - if your preference is more for a folk-rock English ceilidh band, covering essentially the same geographic area as Second Front. Sussex based Kingfisher ceilidh/barn dance band. South East ceilidh/barn dance band Moondance. |
