Current Production - Sidney Jones' "The Geisha"

"The Geisha" by Sidney Jones

Long overdue for a revival this sparkling example of an Edwardian musical is full of memorable light tunes set in a tea house in Japan. Building upon the success of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Mikado", this musical satisfied the continuing fascination of Edwardian England with all things Japanese. If you like the works of Gilbert and Sullivan - you will adore this "lost" musical.

Spotlight

Spotlight is the name for Southgate Opera's newsletter/magazine that is produced twice per year. In it you will find lots of insider information about the company, reviews of shows and backstage gossip. It is distributed to members of the company - past and present, as well as to friends and anyone else interested in reading more about Southgate Opera. Up to August 2008 it was only distributed in printed format, but we have now made it available online. The most recent copy of Spotlight can always be found by following the navigation buttons at the top of this page to About | Spotlight. Alternatively, you can jump straight to that page by clicking here.

Paul Potts

Paul appeared with Southgate Opera in our May 2003 production of Manon Lescaut. We are delighted that he has now found success and wish him all the very best.

Donations

The average cost of putting on a show is around £12,000 mainly because of hiring an orchestra, sets, costumes, wigs and so on. We try to break even on our shows without making the ticket prices too expensive. If you would like to make a donation to help us please use the button below. Any contributions would be gratefully accepted.
