Caving trip information

Sorry No Dates yet.

Somerset novice trip 2003.

Following the success of previous years caving events, we are now planning a similar event for Venture Scouts this year. This event is aimed specifically at novices, more experienced cavers will be asked to assist in leading. As the number of people able to attend the event is limited bookings will be on a first come first served basis.

Location :                      To be decided.
Dates :Caving event :     To be decided.
Briefing evening :           To be decided.
Merstham Mines :         To be decided.
Cost provisionally:        2 Nights and 2 days caving. £30 .
                                      2 Nights and 1 days caving. £20 .
Non cavers £8 per night .

Please contact the County Caving Assessor for application forms at,  scouts.caving@btinternet.com   ASAP
Please include your address as the forms you need can't be sent by E-mail yet. A deposit of £10 will be required per person, together with the completed application forms

These costs include hut fees, breakfasts and Saturday evening meal, hire of caving equipment and any cave entrance fees. Participants will need to bring sleeping bags and mats, they will also be responsible for arranging their own transport and are requested to make their vehicle available for transport to the cave entrances on the following days. Please ensure you arrive on the evening before the day on which you are going caving (so that we can have a full days caving). At least 1 leader will be required to accompany each group and be responsible for them when they are not caving. Leaders are welcome to join the caving trips. There will be a combined Somerset / Yorkshire briefing evening held before the event. At least one person from each group, all novices and any person who has not been caving with us before will be expected to attend. There will also be an evening at Merstham Mines for those who have never been underground before. Exact details to be Confirmed at the briefing evening.

There are many other things to do and see in the area when not caving and for the non-cavers in the group, e.g. hiking, general sightseeing and of course the show caves! Any information we have on the area we will try to pass on to you but you will be left to organize your own activities.

The numbers of people able to attend will be limited by the availability of leaders and amount of equipment we are able to muster. With this in mind it would be helpful if people intending to bring there own equipment could inform us, as this will allow more people to attend. As there are a limited number of places a prompt reply is necessary if you wish to attend. The event is aimed at Venture Scouts and is not really suitable for Scouts under 16.

We will need parental consent forms for any person under the age of 18 years, plus health and home contact details for all those attending. To assist in this we have made 1 form to cover this, we will send you one to photocopy or alternatively we can send you the right amount when we receive your trip application returns We will need each person going on the event to complete one of these.

Please Note :
All events are organized on a first come basis.
Early replies with deposits will ensure acceptance as places are limited.
