Residential and Retirement Homes

Residential care offers 24 hour care for residents who need greater support to that which is possible in the amenity or sheltered housing categories. These homes are subject to a Needs Assessment unless the individual is able to pay the full costs out of their own resources.

The homes deliver full domestic and personal care for the residents but do not provide professional nursing support other than that supplied by the district nurse, when a specific need arises.

Residential Homes are run by public, private and charity organisations and they also vary significantly in size. At the lowest end they fall into the 3 or less residents category and are subject to registration under the Registered Homes (Amendment) Act 1991. Homes offering 4 or more places are also registerd under the Registered Homes Act 1984 with the two exceptions of Local Authority owned residencies, and those set up under Royal Charter.
