The Jock Hocket Beat Ensemble has is a senior rudimental percussion ensemble.
Our members strive to uphold the reputation of quality displayed by Scottish drum lines in
DCUK through the years.
Our 2001 show consists of two pieces which explore distinct and contrasting emotions and
idioms. Our latin composition "JimmyChunga" explores the 'grooves' and sounds of
South America and includes a full keyboard ensemble.
The battery drums become more prominent as the piece progresses, culminating in an
explosion of sound and colour.
Our second piece is an extended and developed version of "Drummers Salute" from
the soundtrack to the movie JFK. We hope to present six snares and three tenor drums in
this piece, as well as bass drums. This year we will
experiment with a brass accompaniement and amplified backing tracks.
This year is one of experimentation, and we hope to develop our skills in producing a more
sophisticated stage show in 2002; one which will utilise amplification, lighting, costume,
stage choreography.

This years Concert repertoire saw the premier of a piece in the pipe band drum corps style. "Drummers Salute" from John Williams sound track to the movie JFK, was originally played by the drum corps of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. This piece is as rewarding to play as it is demanding and if you are "Rudi-Mental" about drumming you'll go mad for it. La Fiesta should feature in the Concert programme; an old favourite from Chick Corea.

Drumming along with Scottish Brass has been great. My colleagues and I have introduced the extra dimensions of tempo, pulse and rhythm to their already diverse repertoire. Eventually we may see a full partnership of Drums and Brass in every tune in the future.
