The ~thoughts~ of Kahlil Gibran

Here you will find different words from the writings of Kahlil Gibran {some of which are already linked on the Seawolf and mermaid pages) yet I thought I would also have a separate section devoted to him. Some are from ~The Prophet~, one of his best known works, and others from the many books he has written.  I will leave ~quotes~ from him below and you will find a link to a further expression of thought on the appropriate words (or on the picture links ) - I hope you enjoy.{smile} 

~ Love does not possess
nor would it be possessed
For Love is sufficient
unto Love~

Marriage is the union of two divinities
allowing a third one to be born on earth

A limited love wants to possess the beloved being,
but he whose self is a vast ocean only seeks his own shores

Let there be no purpose in Friendship
save the deepening of the Spirit

Work is love made visible

The flowers of the fields
are the children  of sunshine and nature
The children of man
are the flowers  of love and compassion

Pain is the breaking  of the shell 
that encloses our Understanding

look again in your heart,
and you shall see that in truth
you are weeping for that
which has been your delight

You give but little
when you give of your possessions
It is when you give of yourself
that you truly give

Knowledge causes its own seeds to grow,
but it could not grow seeds within you

Reason and learning
are like body and Soul.
Without the body,
the soul is nothing
but empty wind.
Without the Soul
the body is but a senseless frame.

The mind manifests itself by looks and words
For the Soul   is our dwelling-place,
our eyes are its windows
and our lips its messengers

Beauty is not in the face
Beauty is a light in the heart

Before teaching others
begin by educating yourself.
Teach by example
before teaching by words

The time less in you
is aware of life`s timelessness
And knows that yesterday
is but today`s memory
and tomorrow
is today`s dream

Religion is a ploughed field,
sown and irrigated  by the desire of someone 
who aspires to paradise
or by someone 
who fears hell

Do not weep over my death 
but rejoice and drink your fill 
at the spring of my wisdom

Anthem of Humanity

~It was but yesterday
we met in a dream
you have sung to me
in my aloneness,
and I of your longings
have built a tower in the sky

But now our sleep has fled
and our dream is over,
and it is no longer dawn.

The noontide is upon us
and our half waking
has turned to fuller day
and we must part

If in the twilight of memory
