This page has been set up for customers visiting the SEEDS website who may wish to know a little bit more about me and my experience in entertaining people. The links at the bottom will take you to the SEEDS disco main website.
SEEDS (AKA Essex Discos) has been established for over 20 years, is run by NIGEL WAYMARK, who formed a group of working DJ's together to work under one name. Though we are not an agency, if we are double booked, we are confident in giving our another of the DJ's phone numbers/details, as all of us are full time professionals and have loads of experience offering a quality service. Nigel has been in the mobile disco business for approaching thirty years, and enjoys entertaining a crowd as much as he did when he first started. Nigel's entry into the business came by chance where in his first job after leaving school he was talking to a work colleague about starting a mobile disco, an older work colleague overheard this conversation, and asked Nigel if he would like to join him as his "roadie" and learn the business. Over the next two years Nigel helped out most Saturdays around the halls, function suites and hotels of London. "My Tutor was older then me and taught me all the basics", said Nigel " I learnt a lot, like what a quickstep or a foxtrot is!".

At the same time Nigel joined Basildon Hospital Radio "I also wanted to learn the basics of how to speak to an audience over the radio"  and it wasn't long before he was doing a couple of shows a week including the all important Request Show, "it was a great chance to get out around the wards to cheer people up a little bit". At the same time Nigel purchased his first mobile disco gear and started to advertise. It was not long before he was working for a local disco agency in the Southend area. "It was a baptism of fire, as I was at first given the work other DJ's did not want to do, but the agency boss got good feed back on the work I did and I was soon promoted". Nigel was then picked up by the now sadly missed Radio Basildon. He started doing a few "off peak" shows, and then was given the chance to work on the regular evening show. "He sometimes used to co-host these shows with his girlfriend (now his wife).

Nigel flirted with the Pirate Radio, and was heard regularly on Canvey Radio as "Steve Wymark". This was a risky business, and it was time to make to some important choices in his life. The first was to concentrate on mobile disco work full time, and the second was to get married (now separated but with two smashing children). "I now concentrate full time on my mobile work and have built up a happy customer base who book me from year to year".  I also enjoy covering the slightly more mature discos, like Ladies Nights at a Masonic Ladies night or being a "informal" Toastmaster at a Wedding Breakfast. But weddings and parties are what I enjoy the most. With Weddings some DJ's see it as a problem when you get two sides of a family together who have never met before to enjoy themselves, but I love every minute of it. People like to dance to the music they know & love, and that's what I play! I am also proud to say that over 80% of my work is repeat bookings or recommendations".

The other big change in Nigel's life has been working back on the radio, "all the DJ's who joined S.E.E.D.S were involved with radio in some way, and kept on telling me to get involved again". So dusting off my Headphones I approached a number of station with a format, and the idea of Nigel's Smooth Classics" was born!" The show features Soul favorites from the last 40 years and majors on Artists like Luther Vandross, Teddy Pandergrass, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross, plus some of those long forgotten 12 inchers from the 77 to 83 dance scene. The show is taken by eight stations around the world including Holland, Spain & USA. When the new FM station for the Maldon district started (Saint FM), Nigel was picked up and now presents a mainstream show on Sunday's from 11am. The show can be heard in the East Essex area on 94.7fm or www.saintfm.org.uk and Nigel is just about to get up early again Mon to Fri to do the Gateway Breakfast show 87.7fm 6am to 9pm in the Basildon and East Thurrock area or worldwide at www.gatewayfm.com (starts 27th November).

HIGHLIGHTS AND FUNNY BITS

NIGHTS TO REMEMBER?

I was booked at a 50th birthday party, when I got there the lady & her partner told me they had got married very recently on the quiet! You have never seen so many surprised and happy faces when I announced this to the audience!. Another highlight was at a wedding, I knew the bride groom's mum (from a number of other do's I had done in the area) & asked her if she was enjoying the evening? "Oh yes" she replied, "we're having  a great time, just like the time you did his wedding reception when he got married to his first wife!!"

TELL ME MORE ABOUT "S.E.E.D.S."?

I got together with the DJ's shown on our website so we could all work under one name, and to pass on a reputable DJ's telephone number to a potential customer if the DJ first called was already booked. We all know that there are many "cowboys" in this business.

WHAT DO I LIKE?

Meeting People, and making them happy (sounds a bit corny but it's true), and people telling me what a great night it's been!.

WHAT DO I
NOT MISS?

VINYL or records, when I think back to all those dusty scratchy discs, all the different formats 7 inch, 12 inch, and albums, it's so much easier now with my PC based system.
