In the late 50s, there was very little rock music as such in this country. Cliff and 'the Drifters' brought the stirrings of rock 'n' roll from America to England. Within a few months, the Shadows became stars in their own right with a string of instrumental hits such as Apache and FBI - "The Shadows sound" was established, inspiring thousands of budding guitarists to try emulating them.
