Hank Marvin was one of the founder members of the Shadows when they formed as 'The Drifters' in 1958 to back Cliff Richard and was the only ever-present member of the line-up until their final performances together in 1990.
The influences of Bruce, Jet,
Brian, John etc are well
regarded by fans but to the general public, the man most responsible for the sound of the
Shadows was, essentially HANK MARVIN. With his trade mark of Red Fender Stratocaster and
Buddy Holly style glasses, it was Hank we all copied (often having to make do with our
cricket bats and tennis racquets) in front of the mirror.
If
further proof were needed of the lasting impression Hank made on the general public, it
came when the famous Naked Gun/Red Rock Cider commercials were being filmed.
When Lt Frank Drebin (Leslie Neilson) asked 'That man in the Shadows' to accompany him. out stepped Hank, still an instantly recognisable figure in Britain despite having lived on the other side of the World for nearly ten years
