Mark's first professional music was as lead guitarist with Matthew's Southern Comfort. The group stayed together for three years in the early 1970s touring Europe and the USA as well as recording five albums and had a worldwide hit with their version of Joni Mitchell's song "Woodstock".

Later in the 70s, Mark took up bass and toured and recorded with many well known stars including being a member of Cliff Richard's backing band from 1981. He first appeared with the Shadows on their 1987 tour as a temporary replacement for Alan Jones who was unavailable at that time because of his commitments with the musical TIME. After Alan's accident, Mark took over his role "permanently", playing bass on their tours and on their last two albums, the 1989 re-recording "At Their Very Best" and "Reflection".

During the 90s, Mark has continued his Shadows connection, working with Hank Marvin on all his recent solo albums as well as being the regular bassist in his backing band on tour. Mark provided the arrangements for several of Hank's recent work. Amongst the most notable were "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" and "Everyday" on the HANK PLAYS HOLLY album.

The 1997 tour, provided excellent evidence of Mark's considerable talent on Harmonica (shades of Brian Locking!) during the Buddy Holly numbers "Raining in my Heart" and "That'll be the Day" whilst "Mystery Train" and "Willie and the Hand Jive" showed that he is a more than adequate backing vocalist.

Mark displayed his striking talent with lead guitar on two CDs produced by Warren Bennett for the Dutch PMF label in 1990. Classic Guitar Hits (volumes 1 and 2) contained fine recordings of mainly 1960s instrumentals but had to be withdrawn shortly after release because of legal restrictions on the use of the names "Brian Bennett" and "The Shadows" on the cover.

He can also be heard on the album "Classic Guitar Moods" credited to "Mirage" (Mark, Warren Bennett and Mike Christer) and "Close to the Hedge" which must surely rate as one of the outstanding albums of 1996.
