About Us
Maidstone Amateur Radio Society is one of the leading Amateur Radio Societies in Kent. We have been established since 1937, and almost simultaneously have been affiliated to the Radio Society of Great Britain http://www.rsgb.org.uk The 'club' as it is known locally is currently based at the YMCA outstation facility in Tovil, Maidstone.

We have a mission - to go beyond earning an amateur radio licence.
We will help those who want to obtain an Amateur Radio transmitting licence, working with Bredhurst Radio Amateur Transmitting Society (BRATS). BRATS have put together a superb range of training resources for Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced class training. They have a regular programme of training sessions. Maidstone will supplement and hopefully complement the great work the BRATS do, and provide support as an examination centre.

We will help those who have obtained a licence to operate their equipment, build aerials, operate correctly, avoid interference, and enjoy the hobby through the use of modern equipment and enhanced communications facilities.

Every Friday evening a team of volunteers are available to show you how to operate an Amateur Radio Station, build Aerials, interface a Radio with a computer, learn morse code, enjoy the most modern techniques.

Formal meetings are held every Friday evening at around 7:30 p.m. During the re-building of Maidstone YMCA we are temporarily without our extensive antenna farm. However, we will be active “on air” in a number of ways - from our new meeting place, during contests, running special events, help Scouts at Jamboree on the Air, and various other opportunities as they arise.

We often get enquiries from people saying "I'm not a member but can I come along to ......" The answer is YES YES YES. Non members, lapsed member, visitors, the interested or just plain curious are all very welcome. Just come along on a Friday evening (or any other time there is an activity on). Remember, Radio Amateurs are a strange bunch. As extrovert as the next man when there is a microphone to talk into but curiously shy without one.
