Search Engines

Many so called search engines use paid placement, sometimes tell you, sometimes not, sometimes plain lie. HOW you search is an art - read any help files on the search engine pages.
Watch out for the increasing use of paid for links, now at least usually marked as "sponsored links". Try the links below!

I have recently found it advantageous to try some of the other search engines instead of (or as well as) Google.

Google Accessible Search is a Google search with lower rankings for web sites that are poor at accessibility and higher ranking for web sites that are easily accessed.

Using a meta engine, which uses several engines at once, can take some of the strain off although you don't control the search engines used and the results can differ from when you use the individual engines yourself. Note that meta engines may use increasingly useless search engines which once offered a good service. Treat any responses from Infoseek, Lycos and Altavista with caution.
