beer of the month - October 2000
style: White beer, or for those who prefer it - bière blanche. Bottle fermented a second time which gives it a cloudy appearance. history: Belgium. Land of chips, mayonnaise and fictional detectives. Oh and those lovely, heavy, fruity Trappist beers. But also responsible for some lighter easier to drink refreshing white beers. The original Belgian white beer since 1445. We're a bit dubious about the claims of the receipe being authentic, as we don't know where they would have got coriander and curaçoa from in 1445. This is the year that Johann Gutenberg is just setting up the first European printing business and Henry VI is still being heavy handed in France. strength: 5%. taste: Not 5%. This beer is stupidly easy to drink, and it's even easier to drink too much. Kind of like lager mixed with a little ginger beer and lemonade. Great for a post-ride drink in the summer months while it's still warm enough to hang about outside. the morning after: No real hangover effects despite what you'd think from the cloud in the glass. Felt fresh as a daisy until I hit the first climb... The bottle even comes with it's own pouring instructions to guarantee the perfect drinking experience.
