Smerdon Jones was established in Plymouth in 1952 by Peter Smerdon and Alfred Jones. The present Directors, Colin Jones, Geoffrey Nicholls and Mervyn Kendall have been with the Practice since 1986, 2000 and 1968 respectively, with David Buckingham maintaining his long association with the Company in a consultancy capacity. The Plymouth Office has a total of nine staff including two clerical.

Smerdon and Jones has an Associate Practice, Geoffrey Nicholls Associates, with an office in Nottingham with a total staff of twelve.

Smerdon Jones has built a reputation for providing a personal service to its clients who include Local Authorities, Government Departments, Banks, Building Societies, Housing Associations and various Commercial, Industrial and Property Companies and Charitable Bodies.

The Practice covers the normal field of Quantity Surveying services including Viability Studies, Cost Plans, Approximate Estimates, Tender Documentation, Post Contract Services, Project Management and Contract Administration. The practice also provides a Building Surveying Service including Surveys, Boundary Resolution, Health and Safety and an Access Consultancy.
