14/08/04 Good practice last week - finally got the bagpipes going and played them on The Tide Is High - not sure what Debbie Harry would think! They'll probably make their debut at Bridgnorth in a couple of weeks time as Rick on the Sax is away. After Bridgnorth it's York followed by Otley Festival. Both are always good weekends, but I'm looking forward to Otley as it's a 5 minute stagger home from any venue (and we usually get a few extras in the band, although I doubt we'll get something like we did at Chippenham this year, when we had more than 20 people thanks to Chinewrde Morris - an excellent gig on the High Street. Just booked tickets to see Blowzabella in November - Nigel Eaton's last gigs with them. Steve C (guitar) has asked for some Blowzabella music which I've let him have - and with his newfound admiration (!) for the bagpipes, who knows what tunes we'll be coming out with next year! Jim (also on guitar) has also expressed an interest in the bagpipes (whether this was out of sympathy I'm not sure yet) so there may be some more tunes coming from that direction. The latest idea for a tune came about from hearing it all the time at Sidmouth this year - "There Ain't No Sweet Man That's Worth the Salt of My Tears" with Norma Waterson singing the version I heard. Quick plug for Otley Folk Festival and Les Panards Dansant gigs. |
