Skendleby Texels LTD

Hello and welcome to the 'Company Profile' this page is all about 'Skendleby Texels LTD', when, where it was set up and how the company has developed. As well as what the overall achievement in their breeding program is.

'Skendleby Texels LTD' was set up in 1993 but has been breeding Pure Dutch Texel sheep since 1982, incidentally the year that I was born ':-)'.
We have enjoyed a succession of top awards at Lincolnshire, Newark, East of England and Great Yorkshire shows. The first of which was the 'Female Breed Champion' at Newark in 1985 (The first year we started showing). Our greatest achievement being the longest unbeaten record at Lincolnshire Show in the 'Golden Fleece' competition for 10 years out of 13. ':-)'
On the way we have picked up prizes such as 'Fat Stock', 'Carcass', 'Best in breed' (both Male and Female) and many many others.
The overall policy of the business is to breed a 'Tight Wooled', Traditional Dutch carcass sheep. Over the years we have also increased the 'Mature' size WITHOUT loosing the conformation. As a result many Skendleby Rams have been bought to bring back the carcass element into pedigree flocks that have over the years lost this Texel trait.
We are interested in meeting other breeders of Dutch Texel type sheep for joint marketing of carcass sheep to commercial breeders and supply of Texel cross lambs to abattoirs and butchers.
