Sussex AAA U13 League Season Review - 2004 Lewes started the season as defending champions. However, the first match of the season at Eastbourne saw an under strength team finish in 5th position. However, those that were able to compete did themselves proud scoring a team total of 94 points, which was only 5 points off the 3rd placed team. Eleanor Harley (17.44) and Bridget Mullany (9.84) gained maximum points in the girls javelin, Lizzie Keep (3.20.8) won the A 1000, Sam Brown (23.57) won the A Javelin and Eleanor Harley (12.60) also won the B Discus. Match Positions: 1st Eastbourne (146), 2nd Phoenix (134), 3rd Hastings (99), 4th Brighton (97), and 5th Lewes (94) The second league match was held at Lewes. A much stronger Lewes Team finished in 2ND position, which included 20 athletes competing for the first time. Toby Hawkes (10.8) won the B 75m, Eleanor Harley (19.93) won the A Javelin, Emily Weaver (1.54.7) won the A 600m, Spencer Bennett (13.6) won the A 75M Hurdles, Toby Hawkes (4.21) also won the A Long Jump, Sam Brown (24.47) and Daniel Tyler (21.99) gained maximum points in the Javelin, Lizzie Keep (3.18.5) and Jessica Lewis (3.48.0) gained maximum points in the 1000m. A total of 32 athletes competed for the Lewes Team, which is a record number. Match Positions: 1st Eastbourne (152), 2nd Lewes (1211

), 4th Hastings (117), 5th Phoenix (112). The third and final East Division league match was also held at Lewes. A strong Lewes team needed to finish in second place to ensure a second place position in the final league table. The home supporters were not to be disappointed with Lewes just edging out Phoenix and Hastings by 3 points into joint third place. This was a tremendous team effort considering the disappointing start to the season. Lewes have now finished in the top two league positions for the last five seasons. Jo Lee (1.59.5) won the B 600m, Eleanor Harley (17.68) and Emma Stapley (12.04) gained maximum points in the Javelin, Jessica Lewis (3.15.4) won the B 1000m, Sam Brown (26.37) won the A Javelin. Congratulation go to, Harry Buckland who set a league season’s best time of 3.01.8 in the 1000m, which was only .3 off the all time league record and Lizzie Keep who also set a league season’s best time of 3.15.4 in the 1000m. Match Positions: 1st Eastbourne (152), 2nd Lewes (129), 3rd Phoenix & Hastings (126), and 5th Brighton (77). FINAL LEAGUE POSITIONS: 1st Eastbourne (15), 2nd Lewes (9), 3rd Phoenix (7.5), 4th Hastings (7.5), and 5th Brighton (6) U13 LEAGUE FINAL The final took place at Crawley between the East and West Division teams. Lewes produced another excellent team performance finishing joint 4th with 229 points. Matthew Rethy (1.57.5) won the B 600m and Eleanor Harley also performed well finishing second in both the A Javelin (18.22) and the B 600m (2.01.8) Match Positions: 1st Chichester (341), 2nd Eastbourne (323), 3rd Horsham (288), 4th Lewes and Brighton (229), 6th Worthing (215), 7th Crawley (189), 8th Phoenix (183), 9th Hastings (178) and 10TH East Grinstead (147). Lewes under 15 girls today won the team gold for the Sussex Cross-country championship run over four races at Goodwood, Lancing (x2) and Bexhill. In the attached picture are Becky Hawkes, Natasha Collins, Belinda Norris and Georgina Rennie. Georgina also won the individual bronze for the same series. Not pictured but very much part of the team were Faye Williams, Jessica Brownbridge and Emily Woodall. The under 13 boys won team silver and Ashley Williams won individual silver. The other members of the team were Josh Burgess, Oliver Thoroughgood, Joe Lee, Owen Gorringe, Adam Wilkinson and Louis Gower.
