LEWES ATHLETIC CLUB

Introduction

This leaflet is intended to give new and existing members of the club some information about the club and its activities. Lewes Athletic Club is based at the all weather track at Mountfield Road, Lewes. Membership is open to all who are interested in athletics and wish to participate in or be involved with the sport.

The Club

Formed in March 1984 to cater for the needs of those who wanted to run locally, the Club has grown steadily in numbers and stature and has a nucleus of qualified coaches. Members are kept in touch through a regular newsletter the "Ammonite" and through the "Notice Board" currently at the entrance to the Lewes Leisure Centre.

Membership is open to male and female athletes from 9 years of age to senior and veterans of any age. The club is based at the all weather 400metre track located at the Lewes Leisure Centre, Mountfield Road, Lewes. The club hires as necessary additional facilities at the Leisure Centre which include, a sports hall, gymnasium, projectile hall, fitness centre, swimming pool and other facilities.

The club also uses other facilities at Priory School for training and other activities in association with the all weather track. As a member of Lewes Sports Club, we also use the Clubhouse facilities at the Stanley Turner Ground for social and other events.

The club colours are drawn from the Lewes Coat of Arms. They are a red vest with a gold horizontal band and blue shorts. Members should ensure that the Club vest is worn when competing under the Club's name.

Club vests can be purchased from Jackie Lucas who can be contacted at the track on Tuesday nights or by phoning 01273 472106

The club logo is taken from the "Ammonite" statue by Peter Randall-Page situated on the Lewes side of the Cuilfail tunnel.
