CBL Plant Hire East Anglian Grand Prix Rnd 4
19/10/2002
The final round of the CBL East Anglian Grand Prix was held at Somersham and there was a bumper turn out of riders - due mainly to the resurrection of the Ipswich club. Incredibly they had the most entries throughout the competition despite not forming until the 3rd round!
On track there was no doubt about the winners of each age group with Suffolk riders again dominating proceedings. The overall winners managed to win every round they rode in so fully deserved their victories.
In the under-10's Somersham's Andy Turnbull had it all his own way despite a fierce challenge from George Solomon. Ipswich's Mitch Steward and Ashley Holmes also made the final despite their inexperience and look like they could go far in the sport.
Tom Pike of Gt. Blakenham was unbeaten in the under-13's but it was good to see Lauren Jacobs (Ipswich) take 2nd.
Tom's brother Daniel managed to beat arch rival Lewis Osborne in the under-16 heats but could not catch the Kesgrave man in an eventful final. It's been a good competion for the Osbornes with Chris riding well for 3rd despite the close attentions of home rider Andy Mittell. After stocking up on chocolate cake Ryan Bartram won the B final.
Adam Peck (Gt. Blakenham) won the under-19 event from Leigh Cossey - the only Norfolk competitor.
In the Senior final Jason Ashford spent some time studying the gate positions and it paid off as he blasted away to retain his title. Glen Wildon has been back to form this year and finished 2nd in every round, ahead of Gary Brown, who passed Dave Solomon.
The event was completed by the presentation of trophies by Jim Evans of series sponsors CBL Plant Hire.
