Albert is the ideal town for making your base for a tour of the Somme battlefield.

The 2-star Hotel De la Basilique is situated right in the centre of Albert, the most famous 'battlefield town' for the Somme battles of 1916 - 1918. Albert is in some ways similar to Ypres in so much that both were the principal towns for the regions, as well as being very close to the respective battlefields of the Great War.  Both towns were also heavily shelled throughout the war.

The Hotel de la Basilique is particularly noted for its position for it is situated directly opposite the famous Basilica (of leaning tower fame - see picture opposite).  The Basilica makes a stunning backdrop as one sits around the fountain just outside the hotel.  The hotel is also used by Somme Battlefield Tours Ltd as a base for conducted as well as Self-Drive tours.

The hotel De la Basilique has single, double and twin rooms. All rooms have colour television (with English channel) and en-suite facilities (some with bath, shower & WC, others just shower and WC).  Claude Petit, the friendly English speaking owner, supported by wife and son Didier and his wife Sandy will do their most to make your stay as enjoyable as possible - especially when sampling their excellent restaurant (closed Sundays and Mondays).
