SPECIAL EDITION Pre-Press Services is a UK-based partnership offering an integrated design, editing and typesetting service for authors and publishers of books, journals, company literature and other printed material. We also offer translation from French into English.
Our main line of business is taking projects through all pre-press stages of production, from receipt of instructions, files or manuscript to supplying fully edited, typeset and proofread pages in PDF form for printing on paper or publication on the web. However, we can also accept commissions that require only one element of the production process - for instance, proofreading or copy-editing.
With many years of editorial experience and science and arts degrees from Cambridge, London and Edinburgh universities, we are able to accept a broad range of commissions for a wide range of clients, from large publishing companies and big corporates to individual authors seeking to publish their work privately. The latter may like to read about our special service for self-publishers.
Our combined roles of designer, editor and typesetter enable us to eliminate much duplication of work (for example, by typesetting and copy fitting as we edit and by inputting corrections ourselves) and to retain editorial and typographical control of a project at all stages in its production. The benefits to our clients are a consistent approach, a guarantee of quality, a full project management service and considerable savings in time and costs. We work as a team and we don't outsource or subcontract .
The tools of our trade are Macintosh computers running various software packages. These include Quark XPress, InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop and MathType. We give more details on our working procedures on a separate page.
On our downloads page you will find our brochure detailing our services in a convenient PDF format for printing and filing, as well as other samples of our typesetting work.
