History of the Northamptonshire Branch
The first formal organised links to ACU & S began in Northamptonshire in 1977 when the Northamptonshire Association of Cricket Umpires was formed, which was affiliated to ACU (as it then was). This small but active organisation quickly grew and attracted a significant and active membership. After eleven years, in 1988, the Northamptonshire Association decided to become a branch of ACU rather than remain as an affiliated organisation. This move proved to be a watershed in our history and the Branch has developed into a vibrant organisation and is recognised as such throughout the county and the East Midland Region of which it is one of the five member county branches. Regular training courses and seminars attract wide support and requests for match officials increase year upon year. The Branch has a seat on the Northamptonshire Cricket Board (NCB) and a permanent representative on the NCB League and Grounds sub-committee.
