This picture shows the front entrance to The Chapel of Ease
which Dr William Barnard had built in place of the old Church repaired for use
by Sir Henry Docwra in 1600. The Bishop's wife Anne, herself the sister of
the previous Bishop later Archbishop Stone, endowed the building and her family
retained the right to appoint the Chaplain. This remained the case until
1945.
The building was deemed to be unsafe and was taken down in 1871.
