Rev. Joseph Poulter Tegart, B.A. was appointed in 1877 and following the example of his predecessor; Thomas L. Scott he further enhanced St Augustine's by the erection of a new church hall which was a great asset to the local community and the parishioners. An advertisement was placed for an organist at a salary of £30 per year; and a residence was purchased at Myrtle Terrace for the minister at a price not to exceed £500. His second son, Sir Charles Augustus Tegart joined the Indian Police and became Chief Commissioner of Calcutta. |
