The Rev. Thomas Baird, B.D. was ordained for the Curacy of Coleraine in 1906 and was Rector of St Augustine's from 1909 to 1918. During his ministry the church seating was increased, the school was remodelled and a sexton's house was acquired.

In 1909, 1st Londonderry Scout Troop was formed and on the 22 August, 1915 Robert Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting preached in St Augustine's Church. In 1910 a tender of £14 for the lighting of the church by electricity was accepted. Thomas Baird later became Rector of Strabane and Archdeacon of Derry.
