Unsticking your Pugs front seats!

Are your front seats stuck?

Don't fancy spending £130 for a new seat slide (£170 if the dealer fits it too!), you could try the following:

It should only take 15 minutes and all you need is a set of star-ended Allen keys and maybe a thin flat head screwdriver.

Symptoms:

Can only move the seat backwards and forwards with the under seat adjuster, but not the passenger access handle. In some cases can't move seat at all.

Your problems are likely to be two items:

These, hat shaped thing (left) pin (right) have popped out of the seat assembly and you don't want to throw them away! Mine were rolling around in the footwell and under the floor mat.

Remove the plastic side cover (white arrow) of the seat, using an appropriately sized STAR-ended Allen key.

Inspect the seat adjuster assembly.

Note that the pin is missing (bottom arrow) and the "hat" (top arrow).

Fit the "hat" onto the pin so that the end of the pin is flush with the brim of the "hat", then position the hat part as shown in the below picture.

Manoeuvre the pin and "hat" so that they align with the hole visible at the front indicated with the blue arrow.

Push the pin through the hole until the end of the pin is visible and the flange is flush with top of the "hat".

The seat should now operate as normal, if so replace the plastic cover. If not the stopping unit maybe stuck.

You should be able to get to it with a thin flat end screw driver (see red arrow and avoid damaging the spring), flick the front of the unit so that it reseats itself properly. If there is any movement on the runner moving the seat a little forward will aid access. Check the seat action. If things still aren't working then something more serious like a bent retainer on the seat slide is preventing the stopping unit from travelling up and down the seat slide. See image below for what it looks like (below right).

Apologies for some non-technical words and of course you do any repairs at your own risk. These tasks should be attempted when lost for thing to do on a Sunday afternoon or if adept at hiding your own mistakes from the missus.
