TV Blasts From The Past

The Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman

When you're a kid shows like these two just seem to be so cool and advanced in their thinking. Of course you don't realise the tricks in the trade used to make them look so cool. Of course this was of an age back in the 70's where computer graphics were very basic and TV, could hardly afford even the basics of computer graphics. Don't forget that Star Wars was made in 1977, about 1 year before both these programmes stopped production and Stars Wars claimed to be one of the first movies to go over one million dollars mark to make. Of course a far cry from the movie budgets of today.

I can remember simulating the running motions they made in the playground with my friends at school. Now it seems so naff to have done that, but then it was cool. It was only later that I understood that they speeded the film up and then played the speeded up film in slow motion, which gave the Bionic effect for the show.

Some of the best epsiodes were those with big foot and the Fembots. The shows used to be on at night and on Saturday mornings on ITV, this was before childrens television developed into a format by it's self as first devised in the late 80's. Then it was a lot better than watching re runs of stuff like Champion The Wonder Horse (LOL). I have caught a few episodes of both these shows on Bravo recently. It might not look big on Tek Scfi now but back in the seventies it was cool.

Who would have thought that a Trans-Am could talk and have the ability to turbo boost, well it could with the aid of special effects.

For a while I wanted a Trans-Am when I was a kid as my first car after seeing this show, of course I didn't realise the cost, LOL. KITT which was the name of the computer in the car of course stands for KNIGHT INDUSTRIES TWO THOUSAND. Kitt's main arch enemy was of course KARR and it had a much more evil voice than KITT's, LOL.

I think few people watched it for the acting, we all just wanted to see the car in action. The car was truly the star. The new Team Knight Rider show, just does not have the same appeal. Rumours of a comeback hollywood blocbuster movie, or a TVM movie are running about at the moment. You never know, we might just see that turbo boost one more time. LOL.
