2006 Holiday in Singapore and New Zealand

In October/November 2006 Julie and I had an extended holiday in New Zealand (travelling via Singapore) to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and also as part of Stephen's planned 9 month sabbatical from work.  On these pages we tell you something of the holiday in words and pictures with a travel diary.  The specific areas of interest are:

    *    Some pointers if you want a similar holiday in New Zealand;

    *    Time spent in Singapore on the journey out and on the return;

    *    The Motorhome we rented in New Zealand for most of the holiday (apart from the time in Christchurch and Auckland at either end), plus some notes on New Zealand Motorhome sites;

    *    Travels in the South Island.

    *    Travels in the North Island;

 These pages are intended for family and friends but others may be interested to help plan a similar experience.

We spent 4 days in Singapore and 20 in New Zealand with about 3 days travelling and hanging around in Airports (the downside!). This is only time enough to get a feel for New Zealand and we were seriously pushed to see as much as we did on South and North Islands.  If time is tight I would recommend concentrating on one Island and my favourite was the South, which is more rugged, rural and has fewer people.  Of the approximate 4m population over 1m people live in Auckland on the North Island.

Hope you enjoy this travel diary

Steve and Julie.
