Esther Proddow

Born 7th September 1807 she was the second child of Robert Proddow and Ann (nee Bolton) of Stair, a village about 3 miles south west of Keswick. She was baptised just over a year later on 1st October 1808 at Crosthwaite. She married Henry Brining c1833 and appears on the 1841 Census for Ellel. Their address is Damside, Henry 28 is described as a silk dresser, Esther is 30 and they have 4 children Ann 7, Elizabeth 6, Esther 3, Henry 1. The Ann shown on the census is not our direct descendent Anne, this Ann died a few months later around September 1841. At the time there was a well established silk mill in Galgate which no doubt was where Henry was employed. The silk mill at Galgate operated for 178 years from 1793-1971, the building still exists but the site is now industrial units.
