Mary Anne Moore
Mary Anne Moore was born April 1871 in Wincham, Cheshire, to Joseph (salt rock miner) and Elizabeth (nee Hodkinson). In the years following her marriage to Albert Yarwood in 1889 she gave birth to 13 children. Whilst living in the Barrow area we have details of four arrivals, Fred (October 1897) born on Piel Island, then Ellen (March 1900), Harold (August 1901) and Mabel (July 1903) all born at 13 St Andrews Street, Barrow. Prior to this we know of Joseph, Annie, Nellie, Arthur, Elsie, Albert Jr, Elizabeth and Ada, plus one other. We believe 3 died in infancy, Ellen, Harold and AN Other. When they moved to Thornton Mary Ann ran the Ironmongers' shop at the end of Windmill Terrace, whilst Albert worked at what later became the ICI. After Albert died (1933) she sold the shop and moved to Carleton, she died in March 1937 aged 65.
Quote from Auntie Violet "Both my Grandmas were lovely women. Poor Grandma Yarwood had 13 children, no wonder she always looked tired."
