Born September 1957 Fleetwood, Lancashire, lived in nearby Thornton Cleveleys with parents and younger sister Sheila.

Attended Banes' Endowed School, Thornton 1962-69, then Banes' Grammar School, Poulton Le Fylde 1969-77.
In 1977 moved south to further education at Oxford Polytechnic (now Brookes University).
After gaining a BSc (Biology/Psychology) remained in Oxford and joined BT in 1980, relocating to Bedford in 1986.

Married Jean in 1983, we have three children, Anne (1987), Alice (1988) and Ian (1996).
