View from the Tower

Sometime in late 1990, shortly after Billy Ayre succeeded Graham Carr in the Bloomfield Road hotseat, lifelong Pool fan Roy Calley inspired by When Saturday Comes, produced Issue 1 of View from the Tower. It was great to have a Pool Fanzine at long last. The first VFTT Editorial set out the stall to be "irreverent, critical, but hopefully constructive." That was pretty much the way it was until Roy decided to call it a day in the mid 90s to devote more time to the day job at the BBC. VFTT also gave me, and anybody else who cared to make the effort, the opportunity to get into print. I have lots of vivid memories of the (mainly) pain and (occasional) pleasure of following the Tangerines, those that found their way into the pages of VFTT can be found below.

Spot the Ball   Bill Bentley, my hero
Tom Hutchison   The oldest winger in town
FA Cup 1969-70 & 1970-71   Sublime to the Ridiculous

Festival '75   Rock 'n Roll at Bloomers
The VFTT Literary Review   A Guide to the Club Histories
