Songs : C'Mon And Get My Love

C'Mon And Get My LoveAnd so we reach the very first Cathy Dennis track. Well, OK, Cathy Dennis with D-MOB track. When this had its debut, in 1989, Cathy was around 19 or 20, which is very obvious from the video.

Lyrics:

C'mon and get my love, c'mon and get my love it's for you
Break it down
So many times I've been around you
And I know how much I like you
It's like a dream each time I see you
And there's this magic in the air
I feel so shy that I can't approach you
Even though you're just there
But I know that one day I'll get my way
and this is what I'll say
C'mon and get my love, c'mon and get my love it's for you
C'mon and get my love, c'mon and get my love it's for you

And in my dreams I am with you
And I dance with your silhouette
There are many times I've tried to squeeze you
In these dreams I won't forget
It seems so long we've been together
Since way back then
And only if you knew how much I loved you
You'd turn to me and say.....

Let's just say that our love is right
Would you kiss and hold me tight
Cos I want to hold you and squeeze you
And tell you that I love you
Each and every night
Let's just say that our love is strong
Would you know were you belong
Or would I have to show you and teach you
Hold you and please you to show you that you belong
C'mon & get my love, c'mon & get my love it's for you
C'mon & get my love, c'mon & get my love it's for you

If there's been a time that I needed you
Then the time is now
I want to see you every hour
When I think I always hear you say....
C'mon & get my love, c'mon & get my love it's for you
C'mon & get my love, c'mon & get my love it's for you

Repeat Rap.....

Chorus & fade....

Review

C'Mon And Get My Love was Cathy's first ever song. As such, there is a temptation to try to judge it to be better than it is. There is really no need, C'Mon And Get My Love is one of the classics of the early '90s, from its powerful upbeat opening it enchants the listener.
Special mention must be given to the video. While it lacks the charm of
Too Many Walls or the immediate draw of Touch Me (All Night Long) it is a good video, and one that gets better with time.
Incidentally, if anyone has the dance moves from the video, I'd love a copy!
Now, onto the remixes (CD Changer clunks to new CD).
The Dance Hall mix is basically the original streched out, it is a really enjoyable remix which adds something to the original. The extended sections are genuinely good to listen to.
The Spaghetti Western mix is something different again. Much more of a "drop everything" mix, it adds all new segments to the song, and seems to be totally different when it first starts, and remains so until almost the two minute mark! Even when sections that are recognisably from the original come in, they are put in differently, and the song seems an entirely different animal. The entire mix is, however, very, very good to listen to, especially once you are familiar with the original song! Overall, this is a slightly more esoteric mix than the Dance Hall version, but is definitely the better of the two.
The song remains among the best of Cathy's dance songs, and is recommended to anyone.
