Preserving Our Environment

Llanymynech Hill is not only historically important. The hill is home to rare species of birds and flowers as well as a multitude of more common plants and animals.

Both the hill and the old quarry have varied species of orchid flourishing. Including some rare ones. Pictured is a purple orchid, abundant during April and May (If you know where to look)

Birds of prey including Peregrines, Kestrels and Buzzards are often seen.

Peregrines at Llanymynech

Llanymynech Golf club work closely with Wildlife trusts in order to preserve areas of the hill in order for wildlife to thrive. This includes such work as clearing bracken from the right of the 7th (pictured). This in turn allows bluebells to flourish in the spring and then the bracken returns in summer with fresh growth so butterflies (such as the scarce brown argus, pictured) can prosper.

Couple this activity with the more regular visitors such as Foxes, Badgers and Pheasants roaming the fairways then you can see that the hill is a haven for wildlife.

Llanymynech Golf Club play a pivotal role in preserving this environment on Llanymynech Hill for the enjoyment of all. Working closely with all the Environmental and Wildlife agencies to the extent that the club has won awards for their assistance.
