Quote from renowned historian Ian W Landles:-

The Common Riding is the golden summit of the Teri year

“And when yon days o June draw nigh

The Banner Blue is raised on high

Unfurled ti kiss the simmer sky

In Hawick ma Border hame,

The flag for which oor fithers died

At Hornshole be Teviotside,

The symbol o the dauntless pride

O Hawick ma Border hame.”

It is often said that all the many and varied strands that go to make up the Hawick Common Riding are “better felt than tellt” but this excellent DVD with its fine film work, sympathetic background music and comprehensive yet understated commentary superbly captures not only the spectacle and pageant but also the raw emotion of Cornet Jamie Turnbull’s year.  A must have for Teries home and abroad which will bring a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat.  Sincere congratulations to Orbital Productions for a job well done.
