England Hockey Women's Cup - Broxbourne - 15 October 2006Lightning Strikes Twice!!St Neots ladies matched the achievement of their men, by knocking a Broxbourne team, two divisions their superior, out of the England Hockey Women's Cup. After a slow, but even first ten minutes, Saints broke away as Sarah Moore rounded the keeper, riding a stick tackle in the process, and dribbled the ball into the empty net, just after the umpire blew to award a penalty for the keeper's challenge. Justice was done as Louise Watts netted low to the keeper's left with the resulting penalty flick. Saints' lead lasted less than thirty seconds as Broxbourne took the ball straight into the D, and after some scrappy defence, the ball dropped to a Broxbourne forward, who swept the ball past an unsighted Liana Griffiths to equalise. Saints dominated the rest of the half, and deservedly took the lead after Louise Watts found Sarah Moore with a long ball. Moore outpaced the defence and slid the ball under the keeper to make it 2-1. Saints hit the ground running after the half time team talk, with five quick short corners. Sarah Moore, Sam Bradbury, Liz Turnbull and Louise Watts all worked the Broxbourne keeper. It came as no surprise when Louise Watts finally scored with a superb strike from the top of the D. Broxbourne also scored with a fine strike from their only short corner of the second half, two deflections helping to beat Liana Griffiths in goal. The 3-2 loss rather flattered the away side, although a fine, reverse stick, goal-line clearance was needed from Fiona Humphrey with five minutes to go, to make sure the game did not go to extra time. Mixed Hockey - Bedford - Wednesday 15 November 2000Let me talk you through my game............especially the two stupendous, one on one with the goalie, goals. The first, after a well worked move in the centre of the circle the ball is passed out to big Kev on the right, who cuts inside, and a neat little flick to Iggie, who dinks the ball to the slim(!) 6'3" roving player finding himself one on one with the keeper, looks up,and slots it between the GK's legs for the opening goal. After several laps of celebration, moving on to the second goal of a inspirational night of hockey (acting as chief medical officer escorting Sam off the pitch) the ball was hit out of defence, linking up with Emma J, who released to Big Kev, who in turn sent a little ball inside to Gary C, meanwhile steaming up the centre was the hard working (!) midfield player who screams for the square ball, cuts across the chasing defender, steps left, one on one with the keeper, slots the ball into the far left corner.
