Two Wins on Tour
The club has now returned from another successful Isle of Wight Tour. As well as the usual golf and socialising, we managed our first two wins on the cricket field this season.
On Saturday, we made 175 against Porchfield with Dave Harry making 49 and Rob Alder and Dave Griffiths putting on a very useful 40 for the 7th wicket. Porchfield were close and probably should have won but in the end a stumping from Griffy and some decent bowling led to a win for us by 20 runs.
On the Sunday, the weather perked up a little and although the Brighstone pitch was very slow and had almost no bounce, we managed a competitive game. KMCC scored 152 with Mike Hayden and Scott Tricker in the runs. Spin undid Brighstone as they suffered many of the slightly odd dismissal methods that we had endured with the ball not coming on to the bat at all. They scored 120 and had briefly threatened before we finished them off.
Many thanks again to Alan Clatworthy, Mike Hayden and Richard Driver in particular for all the admin, and a special word for the landlord of the Mad Cow in Shanklin who stayed open and let us watch Rory McIlroy’s triumph. See you next year!

2011 Season Starts with Losses
After the driest Spring since 1476, the 2011 cricket season is now under way and we have played two games, losing them both.
On May 7th against Chipstead and Old Walcountians 3rd XI we kept them to 180 but could only reach 150 in reply. Then on Saturday May 14th against reptilian South African team, the Green Mambas, we were never in the hunt as they slithered to a record total of 315 for 2 in their 40 overs.
Chipstead, a new fixture and the first game of the 2011 season, batted first and after an early breakthrough from Dave Hayden they made good progress. We fought back well and they were 120 for 6 at one stage, but the 7th wicket stand held together well and they posted a total of 180.
Our batting in reply was a bit erratic, as may be expected in the first game, but Dave Hayden starred with 57. We never quite caught up with the run rate and ran out of overs on 150.
The game against Green Mambas (a South African team based in Raynes Park) was more
eventful. On a windy but dry day and with a lightning fast, bumpy outfield, the Mambas
entered the KMCC record books with a giant python of a total -
Undaunted by this venomous score, and our early loss of double batting trophy winner Richard Driver, Dave Harry and Mike Hayden briefly kept a run rate of 7 an over going, but once we lost a couple more wickets, it also became clear that the Mambas had plenty of bowling in reserve. As the clouds darkened and rain briefly fell, they bowled faster and faster. And faster. And then it got a bit darker again. Anyway, you get the drift. Dave Harry made 47 but our final total of about 110 was miles short and in truth we were not at the races all day.
