(PART 1)  THE LOFT

Pigeon lofts, Pigeon houses and Dovecotes come in all shapes and sizes they can be brick built or made with wood.  Pigeon Lofts can be purchased from racing pigeon magazines or you can design and build your own .Before purchasing or building make sure you have a small plot of ground suitable for your loft, this could be in your own garden or a small rented plot, In some areas regions or states you may have to get permission from your local authority to erect a loft, this would be advisable as we do not want to have to tear all of our hard work back down again "now were did I put my nails"

This is my own Loft design

The wooden slats are on both sides of the Loft so that there is plenty of ventilation for your birds, you can also add an aviary on to your loft (optional). Some fanciers attach fences to the top of their lofts, this is to try and prevent your birds from landing on it and to encourage your birds to go straight in through the trap, In my opinion I feel that if you motivate your birds properly you should not have any problems in trapping them. We will talk about motivation methods in a later report.

This is a good size loft for young bird racing, this lofts dimensions are 8ft by 6ft and is designed for racing at the maximum of sixteen young birds. You could also convert something,  for example a garden shed , railway carriage or  you could even  keep one pair of birds in a large converted rabbit hutch and still win races, this means you do not have to keep a great amount of pigeons and keep costs low.
