COSTA RICA - Monteverde

Monteverde Cloud ForestThe Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve is home to 400 species of bird (including the Resplendent Quetzal which sadly we did not spot on our visit), 490 species of butterfly, 100 species of mammal and 2,500 plant species. The town of Monteverde was founded by the Quakers in the 1950s. Entrance to the cloudforest is in limited groups and you must be accompanied by a guide.  The local hummingbirds flock to the gate of the cloudforest to feed.

Monteverde is also famous for its butterflies. And you’re always likely to be sharing the bedroom with the odd insect or two.  One last look over the mountains of Monteverde (below left) and another glorious mountain sunset.
