| Who are we? |
| |
The Kurmújun - formed in late 2006 - are now a 4-piece Rock Band
from Cambridge, England, specialising in classic/progressive rock music from the late 60s and the 70s. |
|
| What's in a name? |
| |
The correct spelling of the name is "curmudgeon", but we preferred the phonetic version.
The web dictionary definition is "a crusty irascible cantankerous old person full of stubborn ideas", which we thought summed
us up fairly well! |
|
| Who does what? |
| |
After spending several years in London singing (or drumming)
in such prestigious venues as The Marquee and The Borderline, Phil Morgan has found his way to
Cambridge and joins the band on lead vocals. |
|
| |
Before The Kurmújun, Peter Boyd had not played bass on
stage for around 15 years - despite it being his first instrument. This has brought a new energy and enthusiasm to his playing. He also
plays flute and keyboards and provides backing vocals. |
|
| |
Mick Holloway is a very forceful and musical drummer and provides a
great balance of tight playing when required and a looser jazzier feel when the band is able to stretch out on the more jam-based
sections. Mick is also responsible for producing and playing various sound effects during the live show. |
|
| |
Stuart Pledger plays lead guitar and shares the
harmony vocal duties with Peter. He also plays a set of midi bass pedals which are used for extra keyboard and bass parts. |
|
| Where did we come from? |
| |
Peter, Mick and Stuart first played together in the pop-rock band
Cheap Sneakers 1983-1984 and after the demise of this band formed a short
lived 3-piece band called P.M.S. in 1985. The members went their seperate ways after this and then joined together again in
Current Event from 1989 to 1990. In 1996
S.w.a.m.p. was formed, featuring Pete, Mick and Stuart together again for the first time
in 6 years, this time with Peter on keyboards and flute. A 4-piece Progressive/Classic Rock band which played around the Cambridge area
with bassist Bill Terry. When Bill left the band in 2003 he was replaced by
Ken Scullard. This line-up played their final gig on November 29th 2006. |
