The original line up of Matrix came together in October of 1993 when vocalist Mike Richardson was auditioned to complete the first 5 piece line up. The original Bass Player with the band was Eddy Boyd, but after about 12 months and several personality clashes within the band, it was decided that he should go.
 
After several stand-in bass players and abortive auditions, the band agreed that the job should go to Ken Scullard. His first gig with the band was at Arbury Community Centre, Cambridge on 15th October 1994.
