After the demise of "One Night Stand", I felt a need
to change direction completely and so I called on Andreas (Rez) Rose in the winter of 1987 who I knew from Long Road Sixth Form College and
from the Cambridge Rock Club which would meet at The Burleigh Arms in Cambridge on Monday nights during the early 80's. I was getting into
Fairport Convention and Anthony Phillips and I knew Rez had a
leaning towards folk music and owned the various instruments needed to play it on; various acoustic guitars, 6 and 12 string and a mandolin.
I had played a mandolin at a party during the "Masque" era and thought I could pick it up. We got together and I
quickly became familiar with the instrument. The material was prodominantly self penned instrumental music, our version of jigs and reels,
although "Rez" also came up with several songs which tended to document his life at the time. I played Rez's mandolin for about
18 months before I eventually bought my own. He would play acoustic guitar or fretless bass and sing while I would play mandolin or guitar.
The duo only ever played one gig - at the first Ely folk night during the
Summer Festival of 1988. This has now turned into a fully fledged festival in its own right. We did, however, go busking several times
around Cambridge during 1989 and made several recordings of rehearsals and finished versions of our own songs.
Cover versions ranged from "The Sphere" by Rush to "Heart of Gold", Neil Young to "Going Home" by The
Blues Band, as well as several traditional folk tunes we picked up along the way.
Gradually the enthusiasm petered out and we eventually stopped playing together. In the summer of 1989 Rez moved to
Northampton to go to Teacher Training College.
