The Timebeats were formed out of the ashes of
"Matrix". After we had decided to finish Matrix we were offered the
chance to do 2 further gigs. We brought in Bill Terry on second guitar and did the 2 gigs (still called Matrix), one at the St
Ivo centre, which we had done annually for the previous 4 years (not once with the same line up!). The gigs were fairly successful
and we decided to keep it going as a band (but on a more low key basis than Matrix) this time under the name of The Timebeats.
As we had already made the decision not to chase gigs, the bookings became less regular and we only did them when we really wanted to.
This also allowed time for S.w.a.m.p to rehearse and gig occasionally.
Bill continued on rhythm guitar until September 1998, when he decided it wasn't really his type of thing; "...and then there were
3". The line up continued in this form for the next 15 months playing occasional gigs until we decided that New Years Eve 1999
would be the final gig. As it turned out this wasn't the highlight it could have been. Oh well!
Mick, Ken and myself still get on well and we got back together in the Summer of 2000 to play Steve Cook's party (even though it was as
a duo as Mick was ill).
In September 2002 the band reformed to play at Stuart's parents' Golden Wedding Anniversary party. This went well and everbody enjoyed
playing together again. There were guest spots from both of Mick's boys, Simon (on drums) and Philip (on guitar) as can be seen in the
pictures below. Having rehearsed a couple of times to get this event going we decided it would be possible to get the band up and running
again and on December 7th 2002 played we played our first proper gig in nearly 3 years. Even so we were able to dig up "Merry
Christmas Everbody" without any rehearsal as an extra encore.
The Timebeats lasted until Ken was brought into S.w.a.m.p. following the departure of Bill Terry in 2003.
