Notes from Lesbury Parish Council's May Meeting.

Memorial Garden - Chris Whitfield of Lesbury House has generously offered to cut the grass in the Memorial Garden free of charge.
Football Field - Unfortunately, there have been some more problems. The police have been there on one occasion about exposure by a player. One person has written to Northumberland Estates expressing the concern of people living nearby. They were encouraged to log any concerns.
4ShoresProject - The benches are fixed and look good. Dorothy Osler, a keen naturalist, said she would monitor changes in the flora and fauna and report back.
Affordable Housing on the land west of Townfoot Steading - Planning approval was was granted. This must be carefully monitored to see that the developer strickly adheres to the rules in Section 106. Councillor Styring stated that a donation would be made in respect of each property towards a suitable play area.
Parish Plan - Councillor Mrs Bowen explained the process and it was agreed to set up a Steering Group. Information about this, along with a questionnaire asking parishioners if they would like to contribute to the Parish Plan would be sent out with May's newsletter.
Parish Notice Boards - Councillor McKnight has contacted Acklington prison workshops and the timber would cost £141 for new notice boards. It was agreed to go ahead with this.
Underground Cables - The work of putting the cables underground in Steppey Lane has got off to a good start and the workforce are courteous and considerate.
The railings at the end of Steppey Lane Bridge - N. F. Young & Co have looked at this work but declined to paint it. They feel the railings should be replaced rather than refurbished. The Chairman will contact County Hall about this.
Green plastic wire has been attached to the stanchions of the bridge by people in a neighbouring property. The Chairman will make a visit to discuss the matter.
Enrichment within the Parish - Councillor Mc Knight, with some help, intends to erect an owl box near to Greyhurst.
Pond Field - The Chairman of the Friends of the Pong Field would like to buy three picnic benches. It was also agreed to place a picnic bench in the Memorial Garden and possibly one a the entrance to Lealands. A quote for fitting the benches will be investigated.
Request for Charitable Donations - The Parish Council receives numerous requests for donations and Councillor McKnight has spoken to the Chairman of Warkworth Parish Council who have made a decision only to support local charities. A long discussion was held and it was agreed that from now on the Parish Council would give only to local causes based in this area.
Correspondence - The Chairman has received a letter from Alnmouth Football Club requesting a donation towards work on their ground. This will be discussed at the June meeting.
Mrs H. Eccleston's request for a further donation towards her sporting activities was declined.
Planning Applications - Councillor Ms Tulip has received comments about the sign at Rose Cottage. The Enforcement Officer has been informed.
Any Other Business - Councillor McKnight reported that the proposed removal of 18 overhead cable poles within the 4Shores development would be done in the autumn.
Councillor Mrs Bowen reported that dropped kerbs were requested from Meadowlands towards the village. The Chairman will look into this.
Councillor Styring stated that there would be a presentation in June to look at possible solutions to the parking problems at Alnmouth Station.
Councillor Wilson asked permission to spend £25 on shrubs for the island opposite the church and this was approved.
Present were Councillors T. Witson, Ms P Tulip, E. Mansfield, B. McKnight, Mrs G. Graham, Mrs C. Bowen, Mrs H. Smith, R. Styring, R. Brunton, G. Breese.
Lesbury Parish Council Annual General Meeting was held in May and Councillors Tom Wilson and Pat Tulip were re-elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively. There are currently no vacancies for Parish Councillors. The Subcommittee was also re-elected and the members are Councillors Tom Wilson, Pat Tulip, Glenys Graham and Gareth Breese. The Chairman reviewed the last year and especially thanked volunteers who are not members of the Parish Council for their much appreciated contribution.
Parish Council meetings are held in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Anyone living in the Parish is welcome to come along.
