Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
We are a group of parents who have children with Down syndrome. The group is called Positively Down as there are definitely more Ups than Downs. We meet regularly and would welcome contact from anyone who is expecting or has a child with DS.
We have all been there, as one mum wrote: Finding out that my child had DS was one of the saddest moments of my life, it was totally unexpected. I went through a whole range of emotions and some very dark days. I worried about the effect on my older daughter, my marriage an my own life. Two years on life is very good, we have 2 girls who we love and who have a wonderful bond and deep love of each other, they play and giggle together with the odd scrap thrown in for good measure. I have made some wonderful new friends through my daughter, learned a great deal and had fun on the way.
If you would like to talk or meet with some other parents who just happen to have children with Down syndrome please get in touch (see our How to contact us page).
Here are links to 2 sites which have information which we found to be especially helpful when we were new parents:
Welcome to Holland: This is a little story which helps put what has happened into a different perspective. You may well come across this story on other sites.
What is Down syndrome: Some simple, straightforward information about what DS is and is not. This link takes you to the home page. Click on the New Parents button.
Please have a look at Other links for links to a number of sites about DS which we have found to be useful.
