WEEKEND REPORT
What caused an Australian, a Welshman, a Faroese, a few Scotsmen
and about 250 Englishmen to meet together at Sunderland Free Church
on the rain soaked weekend of 6th to 7th April 2001? The answer
is very simple. The Australian, Ken Ham from Answers in Genesis,
came to speak at a series of seminars entitled Creation and it Implications.
One of the themes running throughout the seminars was the fact that
'The Bible is the History Book of the Universe.' Genesis 1 to 11
do not contain stories of mythical people and events, as Evolutionists
would have us believe. Rather, they give the true account of God's
Creation and the early history of man. Ken gave a warning against
the scourge of evolution, which is even permeating the thinking
of some evangelical churches. The Welshman was Dr Monty White, the
Chief Executive of AiG(UK), who was accompanied by his wife, Irene,
the Seminar Co-ordinator. The Faroese was a young bank employee,
Ivand, who interviewed Ken and Monty for a Christian newspaper which
is circulated in the Faroe Islands, with the vision of reaching
people for Christ through Creation Evangelism.
Ken Ham spoke for two and a half-hours on the Friday evening with
just a half-hour break. In the first seminar, Six days, Millions
of years & the Authority of Scripture, he discussed the immense
amount of evidence which is being collected by Christians to discredit
the unscientific basis for the theory of evolution. The clear message
was that the evidence is best explained through the Biblical account
of Creation. Ken followed this up, in the second seminar, with a
description of how 'The Bible makes sense of Dinosaurs.' The Biblical
account of the Flood and Noah's Ark, together with common sense
and the true application of scientific evidence, show the presence
of Dinosaurs and their final possible extinction over the Earth's
6,000-year history. In reality, said Ken, the evolutionary teaching
on Dinosaurs is an attack on the very foundations of Christianity.
If we believe that they were extinct millions of years ago, death
(the wages of sin) came before the fall of Adam. Throughout these
two sessions, it soon became apparent why establishment scientists
are frightened to discuss Evolution/Creation with Bible-believing
scientists from Answers in Genesis and similar organisations in
Britain and the USA. It is because the Bible, rather than the theory
of evolution, gives the true explanation of the scientific evidence.
On the Saturday afternoon, Ken Ham spoke on 'The Origin of Races:
Natural Selection, Cain's wife & the Tower of Babel,' demonstrating
the fact that there is only one race, the human race. Many people
today are confused about the origin of so-called 'races', because
there appear to be major differences, such as skin colour and eye
shape. However, scientific evidence shows that these 'differences'
account for a mere 0.012% difference genetically. Listeners were
left in no doubt that the Genesis account, as well as the accepted
scientific principles of genetics, provides sufficient evidence
for the true, Biblical, account of the origin of various people
groups. Ken also demonstrated the effect the racist origins of the
theory of Evolution has had in (a) humiliating Australian Aborigines
and indigenous peoples from other countries, (b) exacerbating the
problems which exist between peoples of different skin colour, and
(c) increasing anti-Semitism to the point where the Holocaust was
the nadir of humanity. He concluded by pointing out that, unless
we believe the Genesis account of human history, we cannot logically
accept the New Testament teaching about sin and salvation, based
on the fall of the First Adam and the sacrificial death of the Last
Adam.
In the evening seminar, Ken described the need for 'Using Creation
Evangelism to reach a Secular World with the Gospel.' He explained
his reasons with reference to Paul's evangelistic methods in dealing
with Jews and Greeks. The secular society we now live in, with its
evolution based system of education, its hatred of God, and its
belief in relativism, has demonstrated the need for an evangelistic
approach which begins with Biblical Truth concerning Man's origins
and purpose. In other words, the same method Paul used to preach
to the Greeks, a society without a Christian foundation. Christians
can no longer assume that secular Britain understands preaching
about sin and the need for Christ's sacrificial death. Therefore,
we need to take them back to the basics in Genesis 1-11. We need
to use what Ken calls 'Creation Evangelism', to explain how sin
and death entered the world, with a view to laying the foundation
for preaching New Testament doctrine.
The 250 people present were enthused with all that they saw and
heard. Many took home books and videos, encouraging them to study
the History of the Universe in the way God intended, through the
Genesis account. Many are now looking forward to more meetings with
other Bible-believing scientists who are coming to the North East
every few months to continue on the path opened-up by Ken Ham. These
meetings are being organised by the recently formed Creation Matters
North East Group, an organization consisting of Christians from
churches throughout the North East who are intent on making known
scientific truth, which is being hidden from society by the atheistic
media and their evolution promoting scientists.
Keep your eyes open for information concerning these future meetings.
