Answers to the
Big Questions in Life

This week I received information from the City of Sunderland College with a clear invitation: 'Giving you the opportunity to learn.' You can enrol for a wide range of courses: Computing for Beginners, Internet Skills, A Social History of Football, Stress Management, Assertiveness Training - almost any subject you like.

Have you ever thought of enrolling on a course about the Big Questions in Life. What is the meaning of life?
What is wrong with the world?
Does God exist?
Who is this man called Jesus?
Is there life after death?
What about pain & suffering?

Most people find that life is so busy there is no time to think about the Big Questions. However, occasionally something happens that makes you stop and think. It might be a national tragedy or some difficult personal circumstance. For example,
11th September is a date etched on our memory. News headlines about two girls from Soham still fill us with horror.
The question arises: Why, Why, Why?

At times like this, we often realise that life is passing by. We become more aware that life will one day come to an end. We begin to wonder: 'What is life all about? Is there any meaning or purpose to life?' But when things return to normal, the desire for thinking about the meaning of life tends to get lost in a hive of activity. It is all pushed to the back of your mind - until something else brings you face to face with the same Big Questions in Life. At these times you long to make the Ultimate Discovery about the real meaning of life.

At this time of year, when learning opportunities are at the forefront of your mind, why not think about enrolling on a course about the Big Questions in Life. Sunderland Free Church are offering the opportunity to do this absolutely free of charge. However, it will cost you time and effort if you are to benefit from this course.

What's involved?

The Christianity Explored Course takes place one evening each week. The evening will be informal, yet thought provoking.
We meet at 7-30pm. Christianity Explored is a series of Ten Talks followed by Discussion. The aim is to help you think through the Big Questions about Life. You will find that we all face the same questions. We might be aware of some of the answers, but nobody can claim to have all the answers.

The Christianity Explored Course is run frequently. To find out when the next course begins you can either ask at Sunderland Free Church in Stockton Road.

Where will the
course be held?

The course is held in the homes of Members of Sunderland Free Church - a group of ordinary people who share the same kind of problems in life as you do. This provides an informal forum for you to discuss the Big Questions in life.

I invite you to enrol on this ten week voyage of discovery into some of the most important issues you will ever have to face in life.
It could be a life changing experience.
