Edward
BROMLEY was married in 1687 at Braintree, so a baptism around 1660 might be
expected. The Braintree baptismal
register commences in 1660, but no suitable baptism was found (in transcript)
or of any possible siblings. The sister
parish of Bocking has earlier records, but these have not been examined.
There is a
suitable baptism for Mary at Braintree:
C 31Dec1669 Mary d John & Mary LAD
other children of John & Mary LAD baptised at Braintree are: Sarah 11Apr1672, Elizabeth 13May1675, Ann 17Jul1677, Martha 22Sep1679, Dorothy 28Aug1682. The marriage of John & Mary LAD has not been found.
Thomas & Mary LAD also baptised children at Braintree at this time, but their daughter Mary was baptised in 1673, too late to be the Mary who married Edward BROMLEY in 1687.
Mary
BROMLEY 7 was baptised at Braintree in 1688, daughter of Edward and Mary and the
baptism is preceded at Braintree by the following marriage:
m 29Dec1687 Edmund BROMLEY comber & Mary LAD
this
record was seen in a register transcript and has not been confirmed in the
original, but despite the confusion of Edward/Edmund there is little doubt that
this is the correct marriage. Comber is
probably Edmund’s occupation, though few occupations were given in the
register. Boyd gives the groom’s name
as Edm (=Edmund)
Only one
baptism to Edward/Edmund has been found:
C 26Oct1688
Mary d Edward & Mary BRUMLEY at Braintree
The burial registers at Braintree have not yet been examined
