Christopher was baptised in Madresfield in 1695 and became a yeoman like his father in nearby Gt.Malvern When he was 26, he married Mary NEED at St Helen’s, the Cathedral church of Worcester. They baptised two children at Gt. Malvern before moving some 6 miles to Seven Stoke where at least 3 more children were born. It is not yet known where or when Christopher & Mary died |

From
Christopher’s marriage licence, he was born about 1695, and at marriage he was
a yeoman of Gt.Malvern. There is no suitable
baptism at Gt Malvern but there is one at Madresfield just 2 miles away:
C
9Oct1695 Christopher s Christopher & Isabell BROOKBANK
since
Christopher named his second daughter Isabell (the first was named Mary after
his wife) there is no reason to doubt that this is the correct baptism
It is presently believed that Christopher-6 was baptised at
Seven Stoke in 1724 son of Christopher & Mary BROOKBANKS. A
possible m of Christopher and Mary took place at Worcester St Helen in 1720:
m 20Feb1720/1 Christopher BROOKBANKS &
Mary NEED of Malvern Magna by licence at Worcester St Helen
allegation
abstract (seen at Worcester RO):
18Feb1720/1 Christopher BROOKBANKS of Gt
Malvern, husbandman age about 25 bch & Mary NEED of Gt Malvern age about 23
single; to marry at Gt Malvern or cathedral church of Worcester. Christopher bound with William BROOKBANK
husbandman of White lady Aston; both signed
The
marriage was followed by two baptisms at Gt.Malvern of Mary & Isabella; the
baptism of Christopher at Seven Stoke follows neatly after 2 years and gives
first daughter named Mary and first son named Christopher. Further compelling evidence that Christopher
& Mary moved from Malvern to Seven Stoke (about 6 miles away) is provided
by the marriages of their descendants and given the correct time name and
place, there is little doubt that this is the correct marriage.

C 26Feb1722 Isabella d Christopher & Mary BROOKBANKS
C 17Aug1724 Christopher s Christopher & Mary BROOKBANKS
C 23Jul1735 Richard s Christopher & Mary BROOKBANKS
C 17Jan1738 Ann d Christopher
& Mary BROOKSBANK
unless there
is an error in the IGI, the gap of 11 years between Christopher & Richard
suggests baptisms may have occurred elsewhere
C 3Jun1754
William s Isabel BROOKBANKS at Seven
Stoke
since Isabel is a
relatively uncommon name, it seems very probable that the Isabella C at
Gt.Malvern moved to Seven Stoke with her parents c1723. Her illegitimate son William married Dinah
MORRIS at Pendock:
m 29Sep1782 William BROOKBANK of Pendock & Dinah
x MORRIS of Berrow at Pendock by licence; wit: Lu--- BANNISTER; John DEE
allegation: 28Sep1782 William BROOKBANKS of Pendock
yeoman >21 bch & Dinah MORRIS of Berrow >21 spr, at Pendock; bound
with William LAMBETH yeoman of Pendock
William died
intestate in 1797 and his son also named William had two guardians appointed to
administer his father’s estate:
5Oct1799 William BROOKBANKS appeared personally and
alleged that William BROOKBANKS late of Berrow died intestate and that he is
the natural and lawful son and only next of kin; above 14 years but less than
21 so chose Thos EVANS of Pendock shopkeeper and Betty CLARKE of Pendock widow
to be his guardians and administer the goods etc <£300
m 10Sep1750 John CRUMP of B’broughton
& Mary BROOKBANK of Seven Stoke aged 27 [b1723] at Worcester St
Peter the Great by licence
Mary was
of Seven Stoke but can be equated from her age with the Mary born at Malvern in
Dec1721 thus adding to the evidence that the family moved from Malvern to Seven
Stoke [B’brougton
may refer to the parish of Belbroughton 4 miles East of Kidderminster or to the
parishes of Bredicot and Broughton just a mile apart and a few miles east of
Worcester]
although
it is concluded above that Christopher & Mary moved to Seven Stoke, the
burial registers there have not been examined.
There is a possible burial of Christopher at Gt Malvern:
B
1Mar1769 Christopher Brooksbank at Gt.Malvern Priory church
no wills
found in WOR Probate index; no other suitable burial in NBI
Why is there a gap of 11 years between
baptism of Christopher & Richard, both at Seven Stoke?
Where were Christopher & Mary buried?
Need to search Seven Stoke register and the
WOR burial index when this is available for searching
From her m
licence (see above), Mary NEED was of Gt.Malvern and born c1697. From IGI, the most likely baptism is at
Worcester St Swithin:
C 12May1695 Mary d George NEED
this
baptism is preceded by the following marriage at St Swithin:
m 18Nov1686 George NEED & Mary SMITH
and by the
following baptisms at Worcester All Saints:
C 22Mar1687 George s George & Mary NEED
C
4Feb1689 John s George &
Mary NEED
C 22Aug1692 Charles s George & Mary
NEED
Mary
NEED’s son, Christopher-6, married Ann, and the executor of Ann’s will proved
in 1784 was a George NEED, husbandman of Forthampton Glos. No link has yet been established between the
two George NEEDs. The later George was
possibly C18Oct1739 s John & Sarah
NEED at Welland WOR.
